About the Journal

Energy Systems and Applications (ESA) is an international, multidisciplinary journal dedicated to advancing research in energy engineering and related fields.

The journal primarily focuses on mechanical engineering and thermal sciences, with a particular emphasis on thermal energy and integrated energy systems, as well as energy planning and energy management. ESA also welcomes submissions on related areas such as energy conservation, energy efficiency, biomass and bioenergy, renewable energy, energy storage, and energy in buildings. Furthermore, papers exploring economic and policy issues within the broader multidisciplinary context of energy are also encouraged.

In line with global efforts towards sustainability, ESA particularly values contributions that support and advance the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy). The journal actively encourages research on clean energy transition, renewable energy systems, and the crucial interconnections within the energy-food-water nexus.

Every single step of the publishing process (submission, editorial process, review process, layout, and publishing process) is done electronically and free of charge in ESA. This journal benefits from the double-blind reviewing policy using at least two reviewers. ESA follows the guidelines of the Code of Conduct of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), and follows the COPE Flowcharts for Resolving Cases of Suspected Misconduct. ESA is published twice a year, in June and December.

ESA will publish its first issue in June 2026.
